Why, so long after the earthquake, are Haitians still suffering from malnutrition? Why are Somali pirates so hard to beat these days? Why is South Africa now so poor? With regard to chronic poverty and ill health in the developing world, natural disasters, extreme weather conditions and civil wars are merely convenient excuses. For the real cause, examine the developed world's addiction to the so-called free-trade system – is there really no alternative? The world economy is built on the myth that capitalism will make everyone prosperous.
Now is the time to question that myth.
